This type of survey is to provide insurance companies and underwriters’, documentation and evidence of the condition and value of the vessel. It is normally ordered by the present owner of a vessel, usually at the request of his insurance company, as a condition of renewing the insurance policy, or the survey can be ordered directly from the insurance company itself. The purpose is to assure the insurance company that the vessel has been adequately maintained since the time of it’s last inspection, and that there are no obvious deficiencies that are likely to put the insurance company at financial risk. This is a fairly complete hull and system survey but may not require a haul-out for inspection of below the water line equipment, and may not require a sea trial. The insurance company will determine and specify exactly what they want in their inspection parameters. All the boats capabilities, deficiencies and recommendations are documented. Upgrades and improvements are listed and a current fair market value determined. | In most cases, it will also meet the appraisal requirements of Lenders. The survey will include basic inspection for deficiencies relating to life & safety, an appraisal and report stating the general condition of the vessel which will include “Findings and Recommendations” of any obvious defects. This inspection of your vessel will be carried out and completed by Captain Sadu Frehm, SA, member of S.A.M.S. (Society of American Marine Surveyors) and certified ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) marine systems technician and the subsequent survey report will be accepted by all insurance company requests for a survey.
