A “Pre-Purchase” survey, also commonly referred to as a “Condition and Value” survey is normally ordered by a prospective buyer. It is usually a condition of purchase, before the sale of a vessel is completed. It will not only give the fair market value of the vessel, based on the condition of the vessel along with the current market, but also tell the buyer whether or not the vessel is in the condition he has been led to believe by the seller or broker. This all important survey not only can tell a buyer whether or not he should continue with the purchase of a vessel, but also, the report can also be used as a powerful negotiating tool by the buyer. This complete "Condition and Value” Pre-purchase survey will be conducted both in and out of the water within the limitations of non-destructive technology. The vessel will be surveyed when out of the water for a thorough and complete inspection of it’s wetted surfaces, hull sides and all underwater machinery. A sea trial will be performed to evaluate the ship’s running systems, such as steering, propulsion, rudders, control systems, navigational equipment, and general performance of its engines and transmissions. Infrared temperature readings will be taken of exhaust temperatures, engine parts, shafts and stuffing boxes. Generators will be inspected under full load. Every part of the vessel that can be inspected will be inspected. | A Pre-Purchase marine survey includes a complete detailed visual inspection of all accessible areas of the vessel, including inspection of all marine systems, hull and stringer systems, propulsion machinery, electrical systems, plumbing systems, heating and air conditioning systems, generator sets, shore power systems, etc., and the operational tests wherever possible. It will include a comprehensive written report, with a “Findings and Recommendations” section backed with full photographic evidence, and an appraisal of the fair market value of the vessel. Any systems or parts of the vessel that does not conform to ABYC Standards and/or current U.S.C.G. rules and regulations will be listed in the “Findings and Recommendations” section of the report. Included in this report are the current fair market value, replacement value, and whether the condition of the vessel is suitable for it’s intended use. Construction and systems capabilities and deficiencies are well documented with appropriate recommendations where applicable. The report lists an inventory of equipment, condition of all systems and whether the vessel meets the required compliance with current United States Coast Guard requirements and/or recommendations based on the American Boat and Yacht Council Standards.
